Hello -
Resending as not everyone got this on Sunday. Apologies. If you are reading this please write back to me at jcotoia@hotmail.com and acknowledge, along with you child's name.
Updates: Game schedule is online now. We will be updating the calendar with practice times. Expect more practices now, and when we can fit them in once the season starts. For April vacation week, both coaches are on vacation, I'll be back midweek and will try to get as many practices in Thurs-Sunday before school starts up again.
Original Message:
Welcome families to the Farmington Minors Giants.
Your co-managers are Joe Cotoia (JJ’s dad) and Chris Janczar (Max J’s Dad).
We are looking forward to a fun and educational season and are glad to have you aboard. Many of you have been on teams with JJ and Max over the past few seasons.
We don’t have many details as of yet but here is what we do know:
- There are 5 teams in our division
- All teams will make the playoffs
- Games will generally be Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoon (subject to change).
- Practice times to be determined, but we will have 1 each week, and if we can score additional field time we’ll take advantage of it.
- Seasons starts first of April, with first games roughly April 21st.
Our goals for the season:
- Have fun
- Learn and develop
- Crush our enemies
To help you prepare, the kids will need:
- A cup, if the catcher doesn’t have one, we’ll have to use someone else that game.
- Glove, if someone has a new glove, please be out there daily playing some catch. They take forever to break-in. This ensures safe catches and the ability to make Sports Center highlight reels.
- A helmet, unsure if we will have an extra in the coach’s bag, but think about head lice…
- Bat, I have extras, so not necessary if you don’t have one.
- Any cleat works, baseball, soccer, football…
We would love additional assistants for all practices and games, we’ll take what you are willing to give, even older siblings:
- At practice, extra hands for batting practice from pitching to helping with soft toss or feeding the tee. We hope to have smaller groups to work on drills if possible. Nothing worse than one or two kids working on a skill while 10 others have nothing to do.
- At games, batting practice beforehand, keeping the score book, base coaches.
What the kids can do the next two weeks:
- Play catch
- Practice hitting if you have a tee or net at home.
- Play catch
- Put down the Roblox and watch baseball related instructional videos or games instead.
- Play catch
- Grab a friend and have a catch, play some whiffle ball.
Since every team makes the playoffs, we will have a lot of flexibility to move kids around to new positions and try new things, switch the lineups around, pitch and catch. This will increase the fun.
If you have any questions in the meantime feel free to reach out:
